The Stannary Jazzmen were formed in 1989 by a few jazz enthusiasts living on the northeast fringe of Dartmoor, in the UK. They chose the name to reflect their connection with the moor and its history, the 'Stannary' being the miner's organisation that regulated the industry….

...Over time, as in most jazz bands, personnel have changed and now the six band members, who have been together without change for a number of years, live spaced across Devon from Bideford in the north to Lympstone in the south. |
| Dixieland and Chicago jazz from the 20's and 30's is the band's style. Now well established in the county, it is in popular demand in the summer for outdoor functions, shows, weddings, vintage rallies and so on, where good sound equipment is essential. Pubs, parties, wherever trad jazz is required, are catered for with attention to individual preferences. |
